Commitment to a Clear Vision and Implementation Strategies
A.Goals for this 2010-2011 Technology Plan
1. Promote student Information and Communication Technology literacy
2. Promote the continued growth of each teacher’s 21st Century teaching and learning abilities to use technology effectively for administrative tasks as well as to use technology for instructional strategies denoted by the STARChart
3. Promote the continued growth of each administrator’s 21st Century teaching and learning abilities to use technology effectively for administrative tasks, as well as to conduct evaluations of instructional strategies denoted by the STARChart # 2 & 3 seem the same to me... Yes, does sound the same, but #2 is about supporting teachers and # 3 is about supporting administrators.
4. Provide professional development to staff on an ongoing basis that aligns with the district Professional Development Plans for 2010-2011
5. Provide technical and curricular support staff to maximize the utilization of district technology
6. Sustain and improve technology infrastructure, maintain and acquire appropriate software/licensing acquisition throughout the district, and provide access to Web 2.0 tools . By definition access to Web 2.0 tools is provided through the Internet, not by the school. Perhaps you mean to say provide high bandwidth, reliable Internet connections. Again sounds right, but for the State it denotes that the district fire wall will not prevent teachers/students from access. 7. Provide funding that will sustain the benchmarks, goals, and needs of this Technology Plan It seems this should be a goal of the School Committee, not of the tech plan. The State needs to see that the tech dept has a budget managed by the Tech Director and is supported by the School Committee.
8. Provide students, parent and community members’(no possessive on members) electronic?access to communications, information, and school-related activities 9. I would add finalize, get approved and implement an updated AUP. I see below that the AUP was finalized so maybe just a mention of implentating the new version. Yes, it is a requirement for this plan and is declared in section D below. The plan is laid out by the State with Benchmarks and sections noted to address specific requirement. Perhaps folks should see the outline.
B.District Technology Steering Team represents a variety of stakeholder groups, including school committee members, administrators, and teachers. The Technology Steering Team is listed on page 2. (Couldn't find this list on wiki.) The list of folks who take part in this review will be listed on page 2.
C.Needs Assessment
1. The district assesses the technology products and services that will be needed to improve teaching and learning through online surveys delivered to faculty and grade 8 students during the months of May and June.
2. The technology plan includes an assessment of the services and products that are currently being used and that the district plans to acquire.
D.Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) & Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
1. Duxbury Public Schools is CIPA compliant and maintains as protective measures both a filter and firewall for the purpose of blocking access to pictures that are: (a) obscene, (b) child pornography, or (c) harmful to minors (for computers that are accessed by minors).
2. The Acceptable Use Guidelines (AUGs) were re-written during the 2009-2010 school year. These address: (a) access by minors to inappropriate matter on the Internet; (b) the safety and security of minors when using electronic mail, chat rooms, and other forms of direct electronic communications; (c) unauthorized access, including so-called “hacking,” and other unlawful activities by minors online; (d) unauthorized disclosure, use, and dissemination of personal information regarding minors; and (e) measures restricting minors’ access to materials harmful to them. The AUGs ensure safe and ethical use of resources by teachers and students and addresses cyber-bullying.
E. Budget
1. Duxbury Public Schools has a budget for its local technology plan with line items for technology in the operational budget. A budget line is in place for all schools and includes staffing, infrastructure, hardware, software, professional development, support, and contracted services.
2. The district leverages the use of federal, state, and private resources.
3. The local budget provides for the non-discounted portion of E-Rate funds for Internet, basic telephone, cell phone and long distance access. Dedicatedtelephone services funding lines for the district as well as each school are in place. (The previous sentence is confusing and I am not sure how to edit it. Is long distance included in list? It should have a comma before the and. Should the part about the "dedicated telephone Services" be a separate sentence?) Duxbury Public Schools does apply for E-rate funding on a yearly basis and uses funding to pay for Connect Ed, BInformed and other yearly subscriptions.
F.Evaluation
1. The district evaluates the effectiveness of technology resources on a regular basis. Results of student and teacher surveys are shared with the district Professional Development Committee and used by district Instructional Technology Specialist to develop effective professional development opportunities.
2. delete this sentenceThe district’s technology plan includes an evaluation process that allows monitoring and enables it to monitor its progress in achieving its goals and to make mid-course corrections in response to new developments and opportunities as they arise. The district’s technology plan is a living document that is evaluated during July, October, and March. This allows goals to be modified and adjusted throughout the year as opportunities arise.
